Short version: Birthdays stores what you enter on your phone. If you allow diagnostics, the app sends error reports, performance measurements, technical logs, and a weekly usage count to a service we use. Error reports carry a random ID.

We are the controller for the optional diagnostics in section 5. Everything else happens on your phone and in your phone’s own backup.
The app stores what you enter: people, their dates, phone numbers, photos, and gift ideas, plus your settings, a yes/no flag if you bought “Birthdays Premium”, your diagnostics choice, and, once you have allowed diagnostics, the Diagnostics ID and the week the usage count was last sent. A photo reaches the app when you pick or take it. The camera, photo library, and notifications are used with the permission you give in your phone’s permission dialog.
This data is kept in the app’s private storage until you delete it or uninstall the app.
Apple and Google may show us aggregated download and crash statistics under their own terms and your phone’s privacy settings.
If phone backup is turned on (iCloud Backup on iPhone, Google backup on Android), your phone backs up the app’s data together with your other apps. The backup is a service between you and Apple or Google: it is stored under your own account, and their terms and privacy policies apply.
Most of the data in the app is about other people. You enter it, and you decide what to do with it.
To find and fix problems, and to understand how the app is used, the app can send us diagnostic data: reports about crashes and errors, performance measurements (for example how long a screen takes to load), technical log lines written by the app, and a weekly usage count. The app asks you once whether you allow this. It sends the data only after you say yes, and you can change your answer at any time under Settings > Diagnostics.
What it contains: technical details of the error, measurement, or log line, the app version, the time, and general technical information about the phone, such as model, operating system version, language, time zone, screen size, memory, and battery level. Your IP address is used only to deliver the data.
Usage count: at most once a week, the app sends three counts: that the app is in use, which calendar systems you use (for example Gregorian or Hebrew), and how many people you keep, as a range (for example 10-19). Instead of the phone details above, the counts come with the app version and whether the phone runs iOS or Android. We use the counts to see how many installations are in use, how large typical lists are, and which calendars are worth maintaining.
Diagnostics ID: error and crash reports carry a random ID that the app creates when you first allow diagnostics. You can see it under Settings > Diagnostics. It lets us find the reports from one installation, for example when you contact us about a problem, and delete them on request. Logs and performance measurements from the same session can be matched to an error report while that report exists. The usage count can never be matched.
Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, and chapter 9 section 28 of the Swedish Electronic Communications Act for reading this information from your phone). If you withdraw it, the app stops sending; what was sent before stays lawful.
Who receives it: Sentry, a service of Functional Software, Inc., 45 Fremont Street, 8th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94105, USA, which acts as our processor under a data processing agreement. We use Sentry’s European Union data region, so the data is stored in the EU. Sentry staff in the United States may access the service for support and operations. This is covered by the safeguards in our data processing agreement with Sentry (the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and EU standard contractual clauses), available at sentry.io/legal/dpa.
How long: Sentry deletes diagnostic data automatically: error and crash reports after at most 90 days, logs, performance measurements, and usage counts after at most 30 days. A small sample of performance measurements is kept for up to 13 months to show long-term trends.
The optional one-time purchase “Birthdays Premium” is processed by the app store you got the app from, Apple’s App Store or Google Play, under your agreement with Apple or Google and their privacy policies. The app asks the store whether your store account owns Premium and saves the answer on your phone. The store shows us aggregated sales totals.
Data on your phone is protected by the operating system: the app’s storage is private to the app and covered by your phone’s encryption and passcode. Diagnostic data is sent over an encrypted connection and kept in a Sentry account that only we use.
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, and receive a copy of your personal data, to object to processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. Laws in other countries give similar rights, and this section applies to them in the same way.

If we change this policy, we will update the effective date and publish the new version in the app and on the app’s store listing. We will point out material changes in the app’s update notes.
